Using the word NO

January 18 2020
There are many articles written about saying NO. Saying NO is vitally important for goals. Think about how many things we say yes to, either through an actual yes or through our actions.
The hardest one for me is saying NO to family. This is never a direct NO for me, but instead I say unnecessary yes to other things. Like cleaning up after my kids. Instead of showing them the value of hard work and saying NO I will not clean up after your dinner plate which by the way how in the world did you get so much food on the table, did any get into your mouth?? This is an example of how I am saying yes through action. Yes, I will clean up after you. Yes, this is how I am choosing to use my precious time. Instead I should be saying NO. NO, I will not clean up after your food party. NO, I will not allow you to be a slob. NO, I take back the 40 minutes of my life so that I can provide value to your life as a direct result of adding value to mine. Which, I mean if you have ever cleaned your table you should know that I do not have King’s Knight of the Roundtable but a comfortable table that seats 4 and we are a family of 5. This is so I have less table to clean because 40 minutes of cleaning up food is insane.
Look at your life. I mean really look at it. What are you saying “yes” to? What are things that you are not saying “yes” to directly, but is still taking up your precious time and energy? Grab your Challenger, look at your goal and look at the area of your life where you are saying “YES” to other things and “NO” to your goal. Now do the Challenge part of this and say “NO”.

*personal note: I want to let you know this is simply a funny story about a typical scenario with children and demonstrates one way how our actions are one way we say ‘yes’ instead of no.

Until next time,
Heather
